ABIDJAN, July 20 – GoCab has deployed 100 fully electric vehicles to driver-partners in Abidjan, marking the first phase of a 200-car programme that gives the company one of Africa’s largest operational electric ride-hailing fleets.
The rollout follows the mobility fintech’s $45 million fundraising in February and supports Yango’s premium ride-hailing service, GOYA, in Côte d’Ivoire.
According to GoCab, the move is aimed at lowering drivers’ operating costs as it is also combining those savings with its drive-to-own programme, which allows drivers to pay for their vehicles through earnings from the platform over three years before taking full ownership. More than 300 drivers have already spent over two years in the programme and are expected to begin owning their vehicles from 2027.
The deployment also forms part of Yango’s expansion plan across Africa. Earlier this year, the company said it plans to invest at least $150 million as it expands into 10 new markets, focusing on cities in West and Central Africa as well as Namibia, Botswana and Mozambique.
Yango said its strategy is to grow first in the busiest commercial cities before expanding into smaller markets. The company pointed to Bouaké in Côte d’Ivoire, where operations launched in 2022 and have since become one of its strongest-performing locations.
