BRAZZAVILLE, April 13 – TotalEnergies has discovered hydrocarbons in an offshore well as part of efforts to expand its Moho field in the Republic of the Congo, highlighting growing momentum in Africa’s offshore exploration basins.

The exploration well encountered a hydrocarbon column of about 160 metres, with the Moho G discovery, alongside the earlier Moho H find, estimated to hold close to 100 million barrels of recoverable resources.

Located roughly 80 kilometres offshore near Pointe-Noire, the Moho deepwater field currently produces around 90,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day through two floating production units.

The company plans to connect the new discoveries to existing infrastructure, enabling a cost-efficient and faster development cycle.

TotalEnergies operates the Moho licence with a 63.5% stake, alongside Trident Energy and Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo.

The discovery highlights a broader trend of major oil companies returning to West Africa in search of new reserves, as mature fields in other regions decline and global energy demand remains elevated.
