LUANDA, Sept 10 – TotalEnergies is expanding its oil operations in Angola after announcing a new discovery and agreements to acquire operated interests in two additional exploration blocks, reinforcing the French energy major’s commitment to the country.
The company said the Acacia-5 discovery on Block 17 is expected to add around 6,000 barrels per day to production. TotalEnergies plans to fast-track development, with first oil targeted within three months of the discovery, which was made in June 2026.
The company has also signed agreements with Angola’s petroleum regulator, Agência Nacional de Petróleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis (ANPG), to acquire a 40% operated interest in exploration Blocks 17/25 and 32/21 in the Lower Congo Basin.
The agreements expand TotalEnergies’ exploration portfolio in one of Angola’s key hydrocarbon-producing regions and provide additional acreage for potential future discoveries as the company seeks to sustain production from its Angolan operations.
The latest developments come as TotalEnergies signals a substantial investment commitment to Angola. Chief Executive Patrick Pouyanné said the company and its partners plan to invest $10 billion in the country over the next five years.
The investment pipeline reflects Angola’s continued importance to TotalEnergies’ upstream portfolio and the government’s efforts to attract capital into its oil sector. For the company, combining new exploration acreage with rapid development of smaller discoveries could help support production while extending the life of its broader Angolan asset base.
