CAIRO, Nov 5 – The United States and Egypt have signed a $125 million agreement aimed at expanding commercial opportunities for American companies and supporting private-sector growth across key sectors of the Egyptian economy.

The agreement, signed on Wednesday, is the first of its kind between the two countries, according to a statement from the US Embassy in Egypt.

Its areas of focus include agriculture, food security, education, healthcare, water security and workforce development, reflecting a broad scope of cooperation across economic and social sectors.

The embassy said the arrangement is intended to create opportunities for US businesses while supporting Egypt’s development priorities and strengthening private-sector participation.

It is also designed to promote Egyptian “self-reliance” and improve the efficiency with which US foreign assistance is deployed, although the embassy did not provide further details on the agreement’s implementation, funding structure or specific projects.

The agreement places commercial engagement alongside development cooperation, with potential implications for American businesses seeking opportunities in Egypt’s agriculture, healthcare, education and water-management sectors.

However, details of the mechanisms through which the $125 million will be allocated, the expected participation of private companies and the timeline for implementation have not been disclosed.

The agreement comes as both countries seek to strengthen economic cooperation through investment and development initiatives. Its eventual impact will depend on how the funding is deployed, the projects selected and the extent to which the arrangement generates additional private-sector activity in Egypt.
