JUBA, June 18 – London’s High Court has upheld an injunction stopping South Sudan from signing new oil prepayment contracts until it settles outstanding debts owed to commodities trading firm BB Energy.
According to a court order dated June 15 and read on Wednesday, the ruling extends an earlier decision made in May. It prevents South Sudan from entering into any new prepayment agreements involving Dar Blend or Nile Blend crude oil while the legal case continues.
The restriction will remain in place until the country clears its outstanding payments to BB Energy and further court hearings are held. BB Energy said it looks forward to continuing positive commercial discussions regarding future oil deliveries.
The company took South Sudan to London’s courts last year, claiming the country failed to deliver oil bought under prepayment agreements signed for 2024 and 2025. BB Energy eventually received its first oil cargo under those deals in February.
