ABUJA, Aug 11 – Dangote Refinery received about 52.6 million barrels of the 53.7 million barrels of crude supplied to Nigerian refineries in the second quarter of 2026, according to data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The figure means the refinery accounted for about 98% of crude supplied to local refiners during the period.

NUPRC said producers offered 69.3 million barrels to domestic refineries between April and June, above the 55.1 million barrels allocated to them. However, actual supplies stood at 53.7 million barrels.

Dangote Refinery had requested 63 million barrels during the quarter and was offered 68.1 million barrels. It eventually took 52.6 million barrels, about 77% of what was offered.

The NUPRC said the Domestic Crude Supply Obligation (DCSO), required under the Petroleum Industry Act, is managed through monthly consultations between crude producers and local refineries. Actual purchases, however, depend on the “willing buyer, willing seller” arrangement.

Performance varied during the quarter as supplies exceeded the monthly allocation in April and June but fell below it in May.

NUPRC linked the improvement in DCSO performance to higher local oil production and long-term crude supply agreements between producers and domestic refiners.

Meanwhile, Trade Union Congress President Festus Osifo said Nigeria’s public refineries were shut mainly because they were operating at a financial loss rather than because they could not function.

He said rehabilitation work had been carried out at the Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna refineries, but the cost of crude being processed did not match the value of the products produced.
