LONDON, Aug 7 – Trade between the United Kingdom and Morocco increased by 16.7% to £5.3 billion ($7.2 billion) in the 12 months ending in the first quarter of 2026, reflecting stronger commercial ties between the two countries, according to a new factsheet published by the UK Department for Business and Trade.

The increase, equivalent to £756 million ($1 billion), was largely driven by a sharp rise in UK exports to Morocco during the period.

UK exports reached £2.6 billion ($3.5 billion), representing a 29.8% year-on-year increase, while imports from Morocco rose 6.3% to £2.7 billion ($3.6 billion).

Morocco ranked as the United Kingdom’s 47th largest trading partner, accounting for 0.3% of the UK’s total international trade.

Goods continued to dominate bilateral trade, accounting for 71.3% of total trade flows. Trade in goods reached £3.8 billion (MAD 47.63 billion), while services contributed £1.5 billion, representing the remaining 28.7%.

On the export side, the UK shipped £2 billion worth of goods and £625 million in services to Morocco. Imports from Morocco comprised £1.8 billion in goods and £897 million in services.

The stronger export performance helped narrow the UK’s trade deficit with Morocco to £112 million, compared with £546 million during the corresponding period a year earlier.

The UK recorded a £160 million surplus in goods trade, although this was offset by a £272 million deficit in services.

Crude oil emerged as the UK’s largest goods export to Morocco, valued at £630.6 million. Other leading exports included metal ores and scrap worth £315.7 million, mechanical power generators valued at £219.4 million, refined petroleum products worth £197.3 million, and passenger vehicles totaling £112.5 million.

Morocco’s exports to the UK were led by vegetables and fruit, valued at £644.4 million. Other major export categories included electrical equipment worth £386.9 million, cars valued at £153.2 million, furniture totaling £141.8 million, and clothing worth £112.8 million.

The report also highlighted Morocco’s improving macroeconomic outlook, citing International Monetary Fund (IMF) projections that forecast the country’s real GDP growth at 4.9% in both 2025 and 2026, before moderating to 4.5% in 2027.

According to the IMF projections referenced in the report, Morocco’s economy is expected to reach $194.3 billion (approximately MAD 1.8 trillion) in 2026, while GDP per capita is projected to increase to $5,100, reflecting continued economic expansion supported by resilient domestic activity and strengthening international trade.
