DAR ES SALAAM, Aug 7 – Tanzania has eased its foreign exchange rules to allow all foreign investors to buy government Treasury bills and bonds.
The Bank of Tanzania said the move is aimed at strengthening the country’s financial market and making Tanzania a more attractive destination for investment.
Previously, only investors from the East African Community (EAC), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and Tanzanians living abroad could invest in government securities.
The decision comes as President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration looks for new sources of funding following a decline in foreign aid from some international partners. The policy is expected to attract more investors and increase the demand for government bonds.
