DAKAR, Sept 14 – Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye will meet International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Washington on September 15, as Dakar continues discussions with the Fund over its economic reform programme.

An IMF spokesperson confirmed the meeting on Monday, saying the discussions will focus on Senegal’s recent economic developments and the government’s reform agenda.

“We can confirm that the Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva will meet with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on September 15 in Washington, D.C. They will discuss recent economic developments and Senegal’s economic reform program,” the spokesperson said.

The meeting comes as Senegal works to address significant fiscal and debt pressures and advance its economic programme with the IMF.

According to a statement from Senegal’s council of ministers published last week, Faye is scheduled to make a working visit to Washington on September 14 and 15, before travelling to the United Arab Emirates for an official visit to Abu Dhabi on September 16 and 17.

The Washington meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for both sides to assess Senegal’s economic situation and the implementation of reforms as the government seeks to restore fiscal credibility and strengthen its relationship with the IMF.
