Gold Fields Half-Year Profit Rises 81% as Gold Output and Prices Increase

Aug 25 – South African gold producer Gold Fields reported an 81% increase in first-half profit, supported by higher gold prices, stronger production and increased sales.

The Johannesburg-based miner reported headline earnings per share of $2.08 for the six months ended June 30, compared with $1.15 during the same period a year earlier.

The stronger financial performance allowed Gold Fields to raise its interim dividend substantially. The company declared a payout of 16.25 rand ($1.01) per share, representing a 133% increase from the dividend paid for the first half of the previous year.

Gold Fields benefited from a stronger gold market during the period, with prices supported by safe-haven demand and expectations that the US Federal Reserve could reduce interest rates. However, gains in the precious metal were limited by a stronger US dollar and concerns that elevated oil prices linked to tensions in the Middle East could reinforce inflationary pressures.

Operational performance also improved. Gold Fields produced 1.267 million ounces of gold during the first half of 2026, an increase of 12% from the corresponding period a year earlier.

The higher output, combined with stronger gold prices and sales, provided a significant boost to the company’s earnings and cash-generation capacity.

Despite the improved first-half performance, Gold Fields maintained its full-year production guidance at between 2.4 million and 2.6 million ounces, signalling that the company continues to expect production to remain within its previously established range.
