CAIRO, Aug 3 – Egypt’s government says remittances and investments from Egyptians living abroad have continued to support the country’s economy as it works to strengthen growth and manage the effects of recent regional tensions.
Speaking at the opening of the 2026 Egyptians Abroad Conference, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said money sent home by Egyptians overseas has remained one of the country’s main sources of foreign currency. He added that these inflows have helped the economy withstand the impact of the regional crisis.
Madbouly said the government remains confident that the economy will continue to improve, with stronger growth, higher employment, lower unemployment and fiscal deficits, and better export performance.
He also said Egypt is pressing ahead with development across key sectors, including education, healthcare, industry, agriculture and urban expansion. According to him, new communities are being developed across several governorates to meet population growth, improve living standards and support investment and job opportunities.
At the same time, the prime minister acknowledged that recent regional developments have affected Egypt and many other countries. He said the crisis disrupted energy supplies, pushed up fuel prices and global inflation, and increased costs in tourism, transport, insurance and shipping. Those conditions also led international institutions to lower growth forecasts for the Middle East.
Despite those challenges, Madbouly said Egypt has worked to limit their impact on the economy.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Egyptians abroad by improving services, introducing new incentives and making it easier for them to take part in the country’s economic development while protecting their interests and strengthening their ties with Egypt.
