DJIBHOLO, June 17 – Equatorial Guinea’s government has resigned after failing to deliver on most of the objectives set for it, according to the country’s Vice President, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue.
In a post shared on X on Tuesday, the vice president said Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua had formally presented the resignation of the entire cabinet after the administration achieved “barely 10%” of the targets assigned to it. However, he did not specify which targets the government had failed to meet or provide details on the areas where progress fell short.
Prime Minister Nsua was appointed by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo in 2024 as part of efforts to oversee the country’s public administration and development agenda.
Following the announcement, the ruling Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE) said the resignation forms part of an institutional reorganisation process that is periodically carried out to align the structure of government with the country’s evolving priorities.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the party noted that the outgoing administration had launched initiatives across public administration, infrastructure, public services and economic development during its time in office.
“The government’s collective resignation is part of the institutional reorganization processes that are periodically carried out in the country with the aim of adapting the government structure to the state’s new priorities,” the party said.
The development comes as President Obiang, who has led Equatorial Guinea since 1979, continues his tenure as the world’s longest serving president.
The government is expected to undergo a fresh restructuring as authorities move to appoint a new cabinet tasked with advancing the country’s priorities.
