RABAT, June 22 – Morocco has introduced a new digital service that allows importers to submit customs documents and sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) information online, as part of efforts to simplify import procedures and improve border operations.
The service, developed by PortNet in partnership with the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA), is available through the Moroccan Portal for Foreign Trade Procedures and forms part of the country’s 2025 to 2027 Foreign Trade Roadmap.
Importers bringing in products that require ONSSA’s sanitary and phytosanitary checks can now upload supporting documents linked to the Single Goods Declaration (DUM) and submit additional SPS information electronically before goods are cleared.
The platform is expected to reduce paperwork, shorten processing times and make it easier for businesses to complete import formalities. Authorities also expect it to improve document traceability and give border agencies faster access to information during inspections.
A major feature of the system is the direct connection between the digital platforms used by PortNet and ONSSA that allows information to be shared instantly, cuts down duplicate data entry and gives importers better visibility into the progress of their applications.
The new service is also expected to speed up customs and inspection procedures, helping reduce the time goods spend at ports, airports and other entry points while supporting smoother trade flows.
To support the rollout, PortNet will provide technical assistance and organise training sessions for importers and other users to help them transition to the new digital system.
