ALGIERS, April 20 – Algeria has launched its 2026 oil and gas licensing round, offering seven exploration blocks as it seeks to boost production and attract international investment into its energy sector.
The initiative, branded “Algeria Bid Round 2026,” was unveiled in Algiers at an event attended by global energy companies. The blocks are located across key hydrocarbon regions including Ouargla, Illizi, Touggourt and El Bayadh, and are believed to hold significant oil and gas reserves.
The bidding process will begin with a technical phase on June 1, giving interested firms access to data and tender documents. This will be followed by evaluation sessions through October, with final bids due in late November. Contracts are expected to be signed by early next year with Sonatrach under production-sharing or participation agreements.
Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab said the round is part of broader efforts to strengthen Algeria’s upstream sector and sustain its role in global energy markets.
The move comes as Algeria looks to position itself as a reliable supplier amid shifting global energy dynamics, with officials emphasizing its potential to enhance energy security and reinforce its status as a regional energy hub.
