DoorDash Launches Zesty, an AI Powered Social App for Restaurant Discovery

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 17 – DoorDash has rolled out Zesty, a new artificial intelligence powered social discovery app aimed at helping users quickly find nearby restaurants, bars and cafés without scrolling through multiple review platforms.

The app is initially available in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York, marking DoorDash’s first major move into social driven local discovery beyond its core delivery business.

Once users sign in with their DoorDash accounts, they can interact with an AI chatbot to receive tailored recommendations based on specific preferences. Suggested prompts include queries such as low key dining spots, group friendly brunch venues, or romantic restaurants with a vintage atmosphere.

DoorDash co founder Andy Fang said in a post on X that Zesty aggregates information from sources including DoorDash, Google Maps, TikTok and other online platforms to curate recommendations from across the web.

The app is designed to learn individual tastes over time, refining suggestions based on user interactions, saved locations and shared feedback. Users can bookmark recommendations, share them with others, and explore photos and comments from fellow diners.

Zesty also functions as a social network, allowing users to follow others, share dining experiences and discover content related to restaurants they have visited.

“At DoorDash, we’re always looking for new ways to help people connect with the best of their communities,” a DoorDash spokesperson said. “We’re piloting an app called Zesty to make it easier to discover great nearby restaurants, coffee shops and bars through personalized search and social sharing.”

The launch was first reported by Bloomberg.

While some users may prefer existing tools such as Google or AI assistants for restaurant discovery, Zesty targets consumers who want a dedicated social platform focused entirely on food and local experiences.

The new app reflects DoorDash’s broader strategy to diversify beyond delivery services. Earlier this year, the company introduced features that enable customers to make in person dining reservations and earn rewards for in store purchases.
