ABUJA, July 30 – Nigerian grocery delivery startup GoLemon is shutting down after failing to raise the funding needed to keep its business running.
The company stopped taking orders in July and said its customer support channels will close on August 2. Since launching in 2024, GoLemon completed tens of thousands of deliveries across Lagos, with an average order value of about ₦43,700 ($32).
GoLemon said customer demand was strong, but sales were not enough to cover the high cost of running its warehouses, supply chain, app and delivery operations. Although each order made money after direct costs, the business could not cover its overall expenses.
The startup said it tried to secure fresh investment and explored partnerships, including a deal with Chowdeck in 2025, but was unable to find a long-term solution before its funds ran out.
GoLemon said all staff have received their prorated salaries, while suppliers and partners have been paid. It also said customer refunds have been processed, with support remaining available until August 2 for unresolved issues.
Despite closing, the company said it believes there is still strong demand for reliable and affordable grocery delivery focused on larger household purchases.
