MAPUTO, June 8 – French-based engineering and technology company, Technip Energies has secured a major engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) contract for the Coral Norte floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project offshore Mozambique.
The French energy services company announced that the award, together with previously disclosed contracts linked to the development, represents a major project valued at more than €1 billion ($1.14 billion) in revenue.
The project will be executed in partnership with JGC Holdings Corporation and Samsung Heavy Industries on behalf of Mozambique Rovuma Venture.
Mozambique Rovuma Venture is jointly owned by Eni S.p.A. and several international partners, including China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), XRG and Korea Gas Corporation.
The consortium reached a final investment decision on the Coral Norte project last year, advancing one of Mozambique’s most significant energy developments.
According to Technip Energies, Coral Norte will have an annual production capacity of approximately 3.6 million tonnes of LNG, significantly increasing Mozambique’s offshore gas export capabilities.
Once operational, the facility will double the total production capacity of the Coral LNG hub from 3.5 million tonnes per annum to approximately 7 million tonnes per annum, strengthening the country’s position in global LNG markets.
Chief Executive Officer Arnaud Pieton said the development would support the faster deployment of LNG production capacity while enhancing Mozambique’s growing role in international energy supply chains.
The project forms part of broader efforts to monetize Mozambique’s vast offshore natural gas reserves, which are among the largest discoveries made globally over the past two decades.
Mozambique has increasingly attracted international investment into its LNG sector as global demand for natural gas continues to grow, particularly across Europe and Asia amid efforts to diversify energy supplies.
The Coral Norte development builds on the success of the existing Coral South FLNG project and is expected to generate substantial economic benefits through increased exports, government revenues, foreign investment and job creation.
As additional LNG projects advance across the Rovuma Basin, Mozambique is positioning itself as one of Africa’s leading natural gas producers and an increasingly important supplier to global energy markets.
