CAIRO, Sept 24 – Ghana’s cocoa production reached approximately 771,000 metric tons in the 2025/26 season, exceeding the initial forecast of 650,000 tons by the country’s cocoa regulator, COCOBOD, according to a report cited by Reuters.
The latest output represents a 27.7% increase from the 603,840 tons produced during the 2024/25 season.
The stronger harvest places Ghana’s cocoa sector ahead of the regulator’s initial production expectations and reflects a significant improvement in output compared with the previous season.
According to the report, COCOBOD expects production to continue increasing over the medium term, pointing to further potential for Ghana to expand cocoa supply.
The increase comes as Ghana seeks to strengthen production across its cocoa sector following recent challenges affecting farmer payments, financing and the procurement of cocoa beans.
Higher production could also support export earnings and improve the availability of cocoa for Ghana’s processing and international supply chains, reinforcing the crop’s importance to the country’s agricultural economy.
