ABUJA, Mar 4 – Nigeria’s president, Bola Tinubu, has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance and forwarded his name to the Senate for confirmation, according to a statement from the presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

Taiwo Oyedele currently serves as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms and he will be replacing Doris Uzoka-Anite, the latter, who has been reassigned to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third portfolio since the administration took office.

This nomination follows a series of economic policy changes under Tinubu, including the removal of a petrol subsidy and two currency devaluations during his first year in office. The administration has since shifted focus toward tax reforms aimed at improving revenue generation and simplifying the tax system.

Oyedele led efforts to restructure Nigeria’s tax framework, with proposals to reduce the number of taxes collected by federal and state authorities from more than 60 to fewer than 10, with the reforms aimed at improving the ease of doing business and expand the government’s revenue base.
