CAIRO, Sept 10 – Egypt’s inflation rate eased in August after accelerating the previous month, providing an unexpected moderation in price pressures despite rising costs associated with the Iran war.

Urban consumer prices increased 14.5% from a year earlier, down from 14.9% in July, according to the state statistics agency CAPMAS. Economists had expected inflation to remain elevated following July’s acceleration.

On a monthly basis, urban prices rose 0.1% in August, compared with no change in July.

The moderation suggests that underlying price pressures remained relatively contained during the month, even as geopolitical tensions surrounding the Iran war threatened to raise costs across energy and other parts of the economy.

For Egypt, the inflation trajectory remains important for monetary policy and household purchasing power as authorities continue to manage price stability alongside broader economic pressures. The August data provides some relief after the acceleration recorded in July, although external shocks could continue to influence prices in the months ahead.
