ABUJA, Sept 23 – TotalEnergies and Nigerian energy company AMNI have taken a final investment decision to develop the offshore Ima gas field, with production expected to begin in 2028 and supply a significant share of the gas required for Nigeria LNG’s Train 7 expansion.
Located on Oil Mining Leases 112 and 117 near Bonny Island, the Ima field is expected to reach plateau production of approximately 350 million cubic feet of gas per day, equivalent to more than 60,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
Gas produced from the field will be transported by pipeline to the Nigeria LNG facility. TotalEnergies said Ima is expected to provide around one-third of the gas required for the Train 7 project, which is designed to increase Nigeria LNG’s liquefaction capacity to 30 million metric tons per year, from approximately 22 million tons currently.
The investment decision adds to TotalEnergies’ strategy of developing integrated gas resources in Nigeria, with the Ima project providing an additional source of gas for domestic and export-oriented infrastructure.
The development also links upstream production directly with Nigeria’s LNG infrastructure, supporting efforts to secure feedstock for expanded liquefaction capacity as the country seeks to increase its role in global natural gas markets.
For TotalEnergies, the project forms part of a broader focus on developing competitive, lower-cost gas resources in Nigeria while leveraging existing infrastructure around the Bonny Island LNG hub.
