LAGOS, Oct 14 – Botswana has been selected to host the Southern African component of the planned initial public offering of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, positioning the country’s stock market within a major regional capital-markets transaction.
Collen Tapfumaneyi, chairman of the Committee of Southern African Development Community (SADC) Stock Exchanges, confirmed the selection, according to Bloomberg. The committee comprises 14 members and coordinates cooperation among stock exchanges across the region.
The arrangement would give Botswana a central role in facilitating trading in the refinery’s shares for Southern African investors as the company prepares for its planned public offering.
The proposed listing represents a significant opportunity to expand cross-border investment access within the SADC region, allowing investors across participating markets to gain exposure to one of Africa’s largest industrial assets.
For Botswana, hosting the regional trading component could raise the profile of its domestic capital market and strengthen its position in efforts to deepen regional financial integration.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery, based in Nigeria, has become a major player in Africa’s energy sector. A public offering would give investors a potential route to participate in the company’s growth while broadening access to equity investment across African markets.
The Southern African arrangement also highlights the role regional stock-exchange cooperation can play in connecting domestic investors with large-scale African businesses. Details of the final listing structure, timetable and implementation arrangements were not provided in the supplied report.
