South Africa’s NjiaPay Secures $2.1 Million Seed Round to Expand Payment Infrastructure Across Africa

JOHANNESBURG, Mar 9 – NjiaPay, a South African payment routing startup, has raised $2.1 million in a seed funding round as it looks to expand its payment infrastructure services across African markets.

The round was led by European investor Newion, which focuses on backing business software companies.

Founded in 2024 by Jonatan Allback and Roderick Simons, the company provides businesses with a platform that connects them to multiple payment providers through a single integration. The system allows merchants to accept different payment methods including cards, mobile money and bank transfers while managing transactions from one dashboard.

NjiaPay’s platform also routes payments through the provider most likely to complete the transaction successfully. This helps businesses reduce failed payments and manage transactions across different markets more easily.

The idea for the company grew from the founders’ experience at Talk360, an international calling app, where they faced challenges managing multiple payment systems across regions. The internal solution they developed later evolved into NjiaPay.

Several companies already use the platform, including Talk360, Anytime Fitness and Melon Mobile. Talk360 said the system helped simplify its payment processes by reducing multiple payment integrations into a single connection.

The new funding will support NjiaPay’s plans to grow its payment infrastructure and reach more businesses operating across Africa’s expanding digital commerce space.
