CONAKRY, Dec 22 – Guinea plans to host the first edition of a major mining conference next year aimed at positioning the country as a global investment destination for the mining industry, the presidency said in a statement.

The Simandou Mining Summit will begin on November 11, 2026, and is expected to highlight Guinea’s capacity to host a world-class mining forum, according to the statement.

The event is designed to follow in the footsteps of established global mining gatherings such as Mining Indaba in South Africa, the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada conference, and the Bauxite and Alumina Conference held in the United States.

Guinea is the world’s top exporter of bauxite and is home to vast untapped mineral resources, including the Simandou iron ore project, one of the largest and highest-grade undeveloped iron ore deposits globally.

Officials said the summit will provide a platform for governments, investors, mining companies, and financiers to engage on investment opportunities, infrastructure development, and regulatory frameworks in Guinea’s mining sector.
