ADDIS ABABA, Mar 25 – Ethiopian Airlines and Marriott International have launched a strategic loyalty partnership, allowing members to earn and redeem rewards across flights and hotel stays.
The agreement links Ethiopian Airlines’ ShebaMiles programme with Marriott Bonvoy, creating a more integrated travel experience for frequent flyers and hotel guests across Africa and global markets.
Under the partnership, ShebaMiles members can convert airline miles into Bonvoy points, which can be used for hotel stays, room upgrades and other benefits. In reverse, Bonvoy members can transfer points into ShebaMiles for flight bookings.
The conversion structure sets two ShebaMiles equal to one Bonvoy point, while Bonvoy points convert to miles at a three-to-one ratio. Transfers of 60,000 Bonvoy points in a single transaction include a 5,000-mile bonus.
Additionally, guests staying at participating Marriott properties can choose to earn either hotel points or airline miles, with eligible stays earning up to two miles per US dollar spent or standard Bonvoy rewards.
Ethiopian Airlines operates a network of more than 160 destinations worldwide from its hub in Addis Ababa, connecting major African cities to global hubs including London, Paris, Mumbai, Washington, D.C. and Beijing.
As a member of the Star Alliance, the airline’s reach extends to more than 1,150 destinations through partner carriers.
Meanwhile, Marriott Bonvoy connects over 200 million members to more than 30 hotel brands and around 10,000 properties globally, forming a core pillar of Marriott’s strategy to deepen customer loyalty and drive direct bookings.
The partnership reflects a broader trend in the travel industry toward integrated loyalty ecosystems, offering customers greater flexibility and value across multiple aspects of their travel experience.
