CAIRO, Jan 21 – Egyptian engineering firm Kemet signed a memorandum of understanding with China’s TBEA to cooperate in renewable energy and localise the manufacturing of power grid connection systems for Egypt’s electricity network.
The agreement includes plans to establish Egypt’s first factory for solar power inverters, equipment used to convert electricity generated by solar panels into power suitable for household and industrial use.
The deal supports Egypt’s strategy to expand renewable energy generation and reduce reliance on imported electrical equipment. Localising manufacturing is a key part of the government’s energy policy as it seeks to build domestic industrial capacity and develop technical skills.
Kemet and TBEA will work on technology transfer and the development of local supply chains linked to renewable energy and grid infrastructure projects. The partnership also reflects Egypt’s efforts to deepen industrial cooperation with China in the energy and manufacturing sectors.
Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat discussed implementation with TBEA Chairman Huang Hanjie, including manufacturing timelines, technology transfer, and training programmes for the local workforce.
Egypt has been expanding renewable energy capacity and upgrading its electricity grid to meet rising demand and support long term economic growth.
