Coca-Cola HBC, Canal+ Plan Secondary Listings on Johannesburg Stock Exchange in 2026

JOHANNESBURG, Mar 6 – The Johannesburg Stock Exchange expects to see a small number of new listings this year, while preparing for potential secondary listings by major international companies in 2026.

According to JSE CEO Leila Fourie, both Coca-Cola HBC and Canal+ remain on track to list shares on the Johannesburg bourse next year. Coca-Cola HBC is currently listed in London and headquartered in Switzerland.

The exchange is also consulting with market participants about the possibility of extending trading hours. However, Fourie emphasized that maintaining liquidity and ensuring reliable price formation would be critical before implementing any changes, including the potential introduction of 24 hour trading.

She noted that the JSE is closely monitoring a pilot programme underway in the United States that is testing extended trading hours. South Africa will only move forward if market participants are comfortable with such adjustments.

Fourie also highlighted the influence of geopolitical developments on capital flows into emerging markets. She said the trajectory of the crisis involving Iran could determine how long investors continue rotating funds away from emerging economies.

Over the past year, however, investor sentiment toward emerging markets has strengthened. Foreign ownership of South African listed equities has increased from 28 percent at the start of 2025 to around 34 percent this month.

Looking ahead, the JSE plans to prioritize collaboration with other global exchanges rather than pursuing mergers or acquisitions. Fourie said the exchange is working with international partners to create reciprocal opportunities that support cross listings and improved market access.

The JSE has already signed cooperation agreements with several global bourses, including the Singapore Exchange, Saudi Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange.
