LUANDA, Mar 17 – BP has announced the start of gas production at the Quiluma field in Angola, marking a significant milestone in the country’s energy transition strategy.
The development is being carried out by Azule Energy, a joint venture backed by BP, as part of Angola’s New Gas Consortium project.
The consortium also includes partners such as Cabinda Gulf Oil Company, Sonangol and TotalEnergies.
The Quiluma field forms part of Angola’s first non-associated gas project, meaning the gas is produced independently rather than as a byproduct of oil extraction.
The start of production represents a key step in Angola’s strategy to diversify its energy sector and expand its presence in the global natural gas market.
By focusing on non-associated gas resources, Angola aims to strengthen its liquefied natural gas (LNG) capabilities and optimise output for export markets.
The project underscores the country’s broader ambition to become a more prominent player in global gas supply, particularly as demand for cleaner-burning energy sources continues to grow.
