Advertising & Sponsorship Guidelines
At African Economy Inc., our mission is to deliver accurate, independent, and insightful coverage of Africa’s business and economic landscape. Advertising and sponsorships play an important role in supporting our journalism and enabling us to expand coverage across markets, policy, and innovation.
To maintain the trust of our readers and safeguard editorial integrity, we adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Core Principles
-
Our editorial independence is non-negotiable. No advertising or sponsorship will influence the content, tone, or conclusions of our reporting.
-
Editorial staff are not involved in the creation, review, or approval of advertising materials.
-
All advertising must be clearly distinguishable from editorial content and labeled appropriately (e.g., “Advertisement” or “Sponsored”).
-
Advertisers are solely responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
2. Display Advertising
-
Advertisements must align with African Economy Inc.’s technical and design specifications.
-
Advertisers must confirm they have all necessary rights to use trademarks, images, likenesses, or third-party intellectual property.
-
African Economy Inc. reserves the right to decline or remove any advertisement deemed misleading, offensive, or harmful to our reputation.
3. Sponsored Content & Partnerships
-
Sponsored projects (such as features, reports, or events) will always be labeled transparently to distinguish them from independent editorial.
-
While sponsors may propose themes or broad focus areas, all editorial decisions remain the responsibility of African Economy Inc.
-
Sponsored content will be held to the same standards of accuracy, quality, and relevance as our independent journalism.
-
Content created in partnership with sponsors will be credited appropriately, e.g., “Produced in partnership with [Brand/Organization].”
4. Data, Privacy & Targeting
-
Any use of cookies, tracking technologies, or audience data must comply with African Economy Inc.’s Privacy Policy and applicable regulations.
-
Advertisers may not collect or use personal data without clear consent from users.
-
Interest-based (targeted) advertising must follow industry best practices and respect user privacy.
5. Labeling Standards
To ensure clarity for our readers:
-
Display Advertising: Clearly marked as “Advertisement” and visually distinct from editorial.
-
Sponsored Content: Labeled as “Sponsored” or “Produced in Partnership with [Brand].”
-
Events: If supported by sponsors, disclosed with the language: “This event was produced in partnership with [Brand].”
6. Restricted Categories
African Economy Inc. will not accept advertising that promotes:
-
Tobacco or related products.
-
Weapons, firearms, or explosives.
-
Pornographic or sexually explicit material.
-
Religious proselytization.
-
Misleading or harmful health products.
Certain categories (e.g., alcohol, gambling, or political advertising) may be accepted only if legally permitted and appropriately labeled with disclaimers (e.g., “Paid for by [Organization]”).
7. Editorial Integrity Above All
Every partnership, sponsorship, or advertising deal must respect African Economy Inc.’s commitment to independence, objectivity, and credibility. We retain full discretion to reject any advertisement or sponsorship that does not align with our values or could compromise reader trust.
